Aquaman, also known as Arthur Curry and Orin, is a superhero and the ruler of the seas. As the king of Atlantis and other undersea territories, he technically controls most of the planet. His abilities include super-strength, durability, super-speed, staying underwater indefinitely, and telepathy, which he uses to communicate with sea-life. His aquatic nature means he requires water regularly at the risk of dehydration, although he is perfectly capable of staying on land for extended periods. He is also a founding member of the Justice League of America. Arthur Joseph Curry was his successor after the original died, and had his own adventures for several years, until Orin was resurrected during Blackest Night and reclaimed his title.

Apart from what I’d seen on Smallville, I really didn’t know much about Aquaman but when I saw this image, I knew I’d have to feature him too. Plus, I love mermaids so here we are.

As usual, a combination of armour pieces was used.

In 2006, Smallville creators (Al Gough and Miles Millar) wrote a pilot for The WB but the show was never picked up following the merger of WB and UPN. However, the creators were so passionate about the pilot, they wanted it released in some form so made it available through iTunes (and only to US customers). Aquaman turned out to be the number-one most downloaded television show on iTunes and generally received favourable reviews.

After watching the trailer, I immediately recognised Annette O’Toole’s voice (Martha Kent in Smallville) and Justin Hartley playing another character on the same show. Since the producers were so impressed with Justin’s portrayal of Aquaman, he was cast in the role of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on Smallville. Andrea Rojas who played Lt. Rachel Torres even appeared as the Angel of Vengeance during season 5: episode 13.

Did anyone ever watch the pilot back then? I just watched it and thought it was awesome! :D
