Queen Azshara was once a Highborne Night Elf and former Queen of the Kaldorei. She was once believed to be the most powerful spell caster of all time, a talent only surpassed by her beauty. In fact, it was her vanity and thirst for power which led to her eventual downfall. Over the years, she’s had many forms and representations throughout Warcraft lore.
It’s been said Mannoroth flinched when he detected her power, and even Illidan Stormrage was taken aback after gaining his new sight.
From the time she awoke at the bottom of the sea, she ordered an imperial palace built to rival her home in Azshara. Here she resides and rules all naga at the bottom of a massive abyssal sea trench where she reigns as the Empress of Nazjatar.
In Cata, four Darkscale Priestesses surround the [Horn of the Ancients] in Southern Darkshore. Killing them will cause Queen Azshara to appear as you witness some dialogue between Malfurion and herself. It’s revealed she’s primarily responsible for the troubles in Darkshore, as she attempts to divert Malfurion’s attention from Hyjal. I can’t help thinking she looks more like Medusa or a recycled Lady Vashj model.
It’s later revealed that the Queen would like nothing more than the total destruction of the Elemental Lord Neptulon, because that would leave her free to rule over the oceans in his stead.
Queen Azshara’s Dressing Gown is one of the rare items discovered through Night Elf Archaeology.
Azshara was born with golden eyes, which were quite rare in night elves before the Great Sundering. Golden eyes were commonly regarded as a sign of future greatness.
In the new Well of Eternity, she’s been rendered a couple of ways. The image above shows an earlier version, believed to be based on a popular piece of artwork. As you can see she has dark blue hair, rather than moonlight silver, blue eyes rather than golden, and a skin tone that’s almost grey, rather than deep violet. This was later changed as Azshara got a brand new texture, fitting the description of the novel.
I must say, these days she’s looking rather hot. By the way, I would so wear that outfit. Just saying! ;)
In Battle for Azeroth, we finally get to see a lot more of Azshara.
What would you do to save a people? For the great queen Azshara, it is within the deeps that she finds what she needs most: opportunity.
The capital of the Naga arises after the assault in Dazar’alor, while both the Alliance and the Horde are recovering from battle and licking their wounds. Both factions having lost a lot of their naval power, it’s a perfect time for the Naga to strike, beginning their coastal invasions. Sylvanas obtains word that something is out in the sea and sends her forces to investigate, Jaina follows by sending her own champions. As we venture into the great blue beyond, we find a crack leading to an ancient land – between waterfalls, we fall into the ancient land of Nazjatar, but Azshara has laid a trap for us! Players will have to evade her forces until they can power up; along the way each faction will meet a group of NPCs aligned against the Naga.
