Cataclysm brings 62 new battle pets to collect and a few non-combat ones. I mean, could you imagine some pet battling balloons? Imagine if they could transform their shape into different balloon animals with moves you’d expect from that kind of family. Sounds pretty cool to me.

Pets will come from a variety of sources including a handful from the in-game shop and several promotion and TCG additions.

Onyx Panther – Korean World Event. The Sanctum Cub was later added to the Raiding with Leashes IV: Wrath of the Lick King collection so other regions could collect it.

The onyx panther is invisible at night, like a stalking shadow, and disappears with the dawn.

Achievement

Pebble – Rock Lover: Complete the Lost in the Deeps daily quest in Deepholm 10 times.

An adventurous little elemental, Pebble escaped hungry gyreworms in the Crumbling Depths, braved the emptiness of the Twisting Nether, and ultimately found himself rescued from a mailbox.

Nuts – Petting Zoo: collect 100 unique pets

Most squirrels hoard acorns for sustenance. Nuts, on the other hand, hoards acorns to stock its supply of ammunition.

Brilliant Kaliri – Menagerie: collect 125 unique petscelestial dragon

One of the rarest creatures, this kaliri is set apart from others by its brilliant plumage and the lengths hunters will go to capture them.

Celestial Dragon – Littlest Pet Shop: collect 150 unique pets

Breanni in Dalaran, one of the world’s foremost collectors of exotic pets, will only award the mystical Celestial Dragon to fellow collectors whose obsession rivals her own.

Guild

Guild vendors sell a number of pets once the required rep or achievements have been completed. They can be found in all the major cities including Orgrimmar, Stormwind and Dalaran.

Armadillo PupCritter Kill Squad: Kill 50,000 critters (revered rep)

Rolls into a protective ball when it feels threatened. Or when its mother calls.

Lil Tarecgosa

Lil’ Tarecgosa – obtained when a guild member earns Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest – Guild Edition (exalted rep)

This was an epic caster challenge that could be completed by a Druid, Mage, Priest, Shaman, or Warlock. I was excited to finish it as a Disc Priest because it also rewarded the gorgeous transformation staff Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest.

Guild pages must be fearless since they are called upon to announce their guild’s victories over the Horde in battle.

Alliance Balloon – All you have to do is talk to Vin behind the Orphanage in Stormwind City. She offers the quest Blown Away which requires the collection of 5 Windswept Balloons around the City.

Horde Balloon – The quest seemed to be more difficult compared to the Horde version since I couldn’t find any initially. Luckily, Tome was still on so I asked her about it. She confirmed that it wasn’t as easy as the Horde one but to look around the trees, etc. Sure enough, I found them after about 2mins tops.

Panther Cub – Some Good Will Come in Northern Stranglethorn

It looked up at you with those huge black eyes and seemed to ask, ‘Are you my mommy?’

Lashtail Hatchling – complete An Old Friend quest in  Zul’Gurub

Born in the jungles of Stranglethorn, unlucky raptor hatchlings are often captured by the Gurubashi and taken to the troll city of Zul’Gurub.

Withers – Alliance will need to complete the quest – Remembrance of Auberdine in Darkshore. Horde players can just purchase the pet from Apothecary Furrows found at the bottom of the cave at 57, 33 for 50 silver. The cave entrance is 56, 31 (behind the waterfall) in Darkshore.

A solemn reminder of what was lost when the Worldbreaker changed the face of Azeroth.

Blue Mini JousterEgg Wave The portal to this daily quest is at 39,58 in Mount Hyjal.

Unlike its gold counterpart, the blue mini jouster takes a leisurely pace when jabbing its opponent’s eyeballs.

Gold Mini Jouster – Egg Wave

This critter is infamous for its ability to unleash a fast and furious eyeball jabbing.

Tiny Flamefly – SEVEN! YUP!, Not Fireflies, Flameflies in the Burning Steppes

After swarming around open lava pits during the day, these strange insects emit a fiery glow at night.

Drop

Elementium Geode – Elementium Vein, Rich Elementium Vein in Deepholm, Twilight Highlands, Uldum

Often confused by miners as a rare gem, the geode initially makes its presence known by emitting melodic reverberations.

Mr. Grubbs – Eastern Plaguelands (requires Fiona’s Lucky Charm buff from Fiona’s Caravan). The Hidden Stash can be looted from dead trolls like the ones in Zul’Mashar which can spawn a lot of trolls that are easy to kill.

The grubs of the Plaguelands are a side effect of necromantic corruption and the massive number of corpses there. Mr. Grubbs is from a particularly acrobatic breed.Tiny Shale Spider

Tiny Shale Spider – requires the rare spawn Jadefang in Deepholm.

The elemental shale spider is no true arachnid, but it has durability and ferocity that make it feared even in Deepholm.

Clockwork GnomeArchaeology requires Dwarf dig sites

Thought to be an original construct of the titans, the clockwork gnome has some gears smaller than the eye can see.

Crawling ClawCrawling Claw icon – Pristine from Tol’vir archaeology dig sites in Uldum

This appears to be nothing more than the paw of a small primate. A closer inspection shows that the hand has been dried by centuries of exposure to the sands of Uldum.

Fossilized Hatchling – Pristine from Fossil dig sites

You stare at her, and she just stares right back. So clever; sometimes it seems as if she’s figuring out how to open doors.

Pterrordax Hatchling – Pristine from Fossil dig sites

Pterrordax eggs are incubated underneath the fossils of their forebears, allowing the hatchlings to absorb their ancestors’ ferocity and intelligence.

Voodoo Figurine – Pristine from Troll dig sites

Voodoo figurines were often empowered by flasks of mojo, troll sweat, and the flesh of tribal enemies.

De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion – Engineering

The gold standard for sturdy gnomish design, this mechanical critter is the perfect companion for the lonely engineer on the go.

Native to the ashen soils of the Firelands, the lasher was transplanted to Azeroth with the help of the Guardians of Hyjal.

This bird is a salty veteran of the endless naval battles surrounding Tol Barad–a veteran whose grown plump from picking through the leftovers, that is.

Fox Kit – 200x Tol Barad Commendations sold by the Quartermaster – requires Exalted rep with Hellscream’s Reach (H) or Baradin’s Wardens (A)

The fighting in Tol Barad has made it difficult to find these kits, and numerous would-be owners have decimated the fox population there as a result.

Six pets can be purchased from Lhara for 90 Darkmoon Tickets each during the Darkmoon Faire.

  • Darkmoon Balloon – This flying pet is a companion. It cannot enter battles and does not have stats.
  • Darkmoon Zeppelin – Lacking the mines and rockets of its predecessor, this kid-friendly faire prize is a new favorite among Azeroth’s children.
  • Darkmoon Tonk – A favorite of children across Azeroth, this tough little toy can withstand even the most aggressive imagination.
  • Darkmoon Cub – This snuggly kitten loves to frolic, but sometimes it seems to be chasing things that aren’t really there.
  • Darkmoon Turtle – This shelled reptile bravely protects the home on its back with an unwaveringly happy disposition.
  • Darkmoon Monkey – The monkeys of Azeroth are infamous tricksters, and these beloved companions of the Darkmoon Faire have taken that innate cunning to a whole new level.

Hyjal Bear Cub – 1500G sold by Varlan Highbough in the Molten Front

The cubs of Hyjal suffered much during the Cataclysm. On the bright side, the devastation also led to their newfound love of heights and daredevil stunts.

winterspring cubWinterspring Cub – 50G sold by Michelle De Rum located inside the Everlook Inn, Winterspring. Michelle’s NPC is a tribute to Drrum who had an impressive collection of matching her transmog to her battle pets.

Winterspring cubs are happiest when frolicking in freshly fallen snow.

In-Game Shop

Guardian Cub – This pet is no longer available in the shop but you may find it in the AH.

Still a little clumsy, this tiny winged lion is learning how to be the best mount it can be!

Lil’ Ragnaros – can be purchased

It’s never too soon to summon this tiny aspect of the dread Firelord.

  • Moonkin Hatchling – (Horde) The distinct roar of the moonkin is one of the most terrifying sounds in nature.
  • Moonkin Hatchling – (Alliance) Moonkin are blessed by Elune and spread nature’s grace wherever they travel. The festive fowls are always in the mood for a dance.

While there are 2 versions of the Moonkin, purchasing one automatically added the other one to your journal. However, only one would be active depending on which faction you were logged into.

Cenarion Hatchling – This pet is no longer available in the shop but you may find it in the AH.

Not yet the fearsome creatures they grow to in adulthood, the Cenarion hatchlings have an almost harmless appearance that has caught novice trainers of the Cenarion Circle off guard.

Trading Card Game

Gregarious Grell – Crown of the Heavens

The grell are embodiments of the wild side of nature. Tame ones are very rare.

Landro’s Lichling – Worldbreaker (same model as Lil’ K.T. – previously from the In-game Shop)

How the goblin Landro Longshot initially came into possession of the lichling remains a mystery, but he was all too eager to wager it in a game of cards.

Landro’s Lil’ XT – Worldbreaker (same model as Lil’ XT – previously from the In-game Shop)

Always ‘ready to play,’ Landro’s Lil’ XT is almost indistinguishable from the original. Prone to tantrums and narcolepsy.

Elune made nightsabers silver and black so they could meld into the shadows on a moonlit night.

You might think this fish out of water would be a weak opponent… until you see the intensity that lies within its protective bubble.

Legs – Children’s Week (Shattrah questine)

Wild marsh walkers are dangerously aggressive, but they’re loyal and affectionate if you manage to tame them.

  • Lunar Lantern (Alliance) – These magical lanterns are acquired at the Lunar Festival, which celebrates the defeat of the Burning Legion by the free races of Azeroth.
  • Festival Lantern (Horde) – The light from each lantern honors the soul of an ancestor spirit. During the Lunar Festival, these ghostly elders pass along their wisdom to the current generation.

Both lanterns can be purchased from Valadar Starsong in Moonglade during the Lunar Festival.

Creepy Crate – rewarded at the end of the quest chain starting with A Friend in Need (H) or A Friend in Need (A) during Hallow’s End

Previous owners of the crate have reported the disappearance of other pets from their collection.
