One of the most exciting things about Molten Front is the number of rares in the zone. All seven are tameable Hunter pets who all offer their own unique abilities to anyone game for a challenging tame. Today I managed to spot my last one from the zone. I was never really looking to tame any of the spiders although I did give a couple of attempts to Kirix one night while I was waiting for Skarr to spawn. Let’s just say I had a painful time without silencing shot.

Anthriss
Anthriss
is a yellow fire spider found by the Magma Springs. He has the buff Searing Webs which melts while in lava – so you’ll have to stand in the nearby lava to get Web Master while taming it.

Deth'tilac
Deth’tilac is located behind the Forlorn Spire. He has the buff Molten Will, making it immune to being tamed unless it’s at low health. He uses Deth Metal which increases movement speed when not attacked and Aura of Deth’spair which reduces healing by 99%. It also uses Deth Strike which kills a player but also reduces maximum health by 10%.

Karkin
Karkin
spawns in Fireplume Peak – you’ll reach him by jumping off Skitterflame’s Ledge. He’s a crab with shiny metallic skin that casts a frontal fire attack from range. You will have to jump across the floating rocks to get in range to tame him, but not too close or else you’ll be attacked. Also, make sure you’re on a stable rock or you’ll end up falling to your death – unless you picked up the daily first to quest on the island.

Today I tried to take another pic of this crab but forgot to make sure I was on a stable rock before I started taking screenshots. Needless to say, I had only taken one shot when my rock cracked and I fell to my death. It was an expensive trip to Molten Front today with my repair bill being in excess of 150G (including one spirit rez due to where my body was) :P

Kirix
Kirix
is located in the Furnace. He hits extremely hard and is buffed with Toxic Presence which deals AOE nature damage and additional damage to pets and minions.

Skarr
Skarr
is a gorgeous black cat with glowing eyes who is also located on various floating rocks in Fireplume Peak. Unfortunately, when I was attempting to regain my health bar after an unsuccessful tame late one night, a paladin came along and killed him without much hesitation. =/

Skitterflame
Skitterflame
is located at Fireplume Peak.  You’ll find him hiding somewhat in the lava having some sort of lava bath. He starts off with a full energy bar and the buff Superheated, making him immune to being tamed. Frost and ice traps will lower their energy with Cooling Down, allowing you to tame it at low energy. However, if Skitterflame’s energy goes down to zero, it will die, due to Burning Frenzy. Lava in turn will refresh its energy bar.

On a side note, I have to thank Coolidge for aggroing him, allowing me to take a rather fabulous action shot of the guy. Unfortunately, he died twice while I tried to get a good action shot, minus any ugly hostile corpses. Although it came out pretty even when I had a horrible time rock jumping a couple of times. It really does suck when you fall off a rock and don’t have a friendly druid to pick you up and transport you to the other side.

Solix
Solix
is located in the Rune Cave in the Ignacious Depths. He’s buffed with Blazing Speed, which makes him immune to being tamed. He also has Flashfire, increasing its attack and movement speed by 1000%, making short work of unsuspecting players. Stuns help when taming him; having the quest Enduring the Heat can help because you can gain a protective fire buff.

I actually like the change Blizzard made to tameable rares during this expansion. They are generally hard to miss due to their size except for Grunter in the Blasted Lands. I believe this is to deter people from killing them as they don’t drop loot besides the Crystalline Tear of Loyalty. The tear does vendor for 25G but spare a thought for the hunter who’s been camping their new companion.
