Going into Dragonflight, I was not expecting to see two Family Battler metas, but here we are. This time we’ll be heading into a mysterious underground cavern. There will be 37 pets to collect from various drops, treasures and even snail racing. Not to mention 2,500 Polished Pet Charms for another vendor pet.

roland cheese meme

The Gift of Cheese – Share the Recipe Rat’s greatest recipe with 50 hungry rats across Azeroth. Rewards Roland
If Roland has taught you anything, it’s that friendship comes at a price. That price is lots and lots of cheese.

The Recipe Rat initially rewards the Ratcipe: Deviously Deviled Eggs – Secret Recipe in Zskera Vault. However, this achievement requires a new recipe from the Recipe Rat in Zaralek Cavern.

Zaralek Cavern Safari

This time I’ve included rare-skinned variants which is a nice throwback to the rares I used to camp on my hunter between vanilla and Mists of Pandaia. In fact, I’m kind of kicking myself for not doing this sooner.

Puddlehopper – Puddlehoppers are known to eat bugs almost as large as they are. In one gulp!

Endmiteendmite - rare skin – This creature usually has a muddy appearance, but occasionally you may find one that shines a brilliant red. The blue variant with purple eyes seems to be the rarest even though the flavour text mentions a red hue.

boulderfang orangeBoulderfang – Boulderfangs are known to make cozy nests in cabinets, shoes, and other inconvenient places. The red variant seems to be the most rare.

rrock martin blueRock Martin – Rock martins make their nests out of scavenged pebbles. The blue/grey version is the lovely rare variant.

stonewhisker whiteStonewhisker – The bright glow of a stonewhisker’s ears is said to be the result of eating magical cheeses. This may also explain its extremely bad breath. White is the rarest colour.

slabwing redSlabwing – Despite being made mostly of rock, these creatures can fly. Some attribute this to the strength of their wings, but most agree it’s probably just magic. The red version is a low spawn.

Yellabon – When these insects move in a swarm they look like a golden fog.

Cobbleshell – Slimy, yet also gritty. It would not make a good meal.

hollow moth orangeHollow Moth – Not all moths spin silk. These moths spin lies. Orange is the rarer skin.

Other Wild Pets

The following were all primary pets.

  • Ebonwing Moth – Because they are often attracted to candles, these moths can be a big problem for kobolds. A handful of Hollow Moths spawn ~45, 76 so I demolished them until the rare appeared. It was poor quality but nothing a Flawless Battle-Stone can’t fix.
  • Scarlapod – Because their dens tend to be close to drogbar settlements, these snails are both faster and stronger than those on the surface. Found one as a primary pet at 45, 74 in the Cascades Column, north of Glimmerogg.
  • Sunglow Cobra – A tiny sun seems to burn in its chest. This one didn’t seem that rare compared to the other four.
  • Lithengale – The call of the lithengale is unique among birds in that it has a persistent, driving rhythm. Killed the handful of Rock Martins ~48, 76 until one spawned.
  • deepridgerorange Embers of Neltharion Pets - 10.1Deepridger – The fire at the center of the world burns within its carapace. This is a rare spawn in place of Slabwing. Sulfur Springs seem to be a good spot for these although the light orange colour seems to be the rarer version. Found mine at 50, 55.

Battle in Zaralek Cavern – Complete 4 Pet Battle World Quests in Zaralek Cavern with a full team of level 25 pets.

baa-lialWhoo hoo! To celebrate the launch of Diablo IV in June, we’ll be able to collect another demonic goat but be warned. This one’s been skinned alive!

Baa’lial – Also known as the Lord of Lies, Baa’lial is a master of deceit.

A Greedy Emissary – Begins May 25th, 2023 Ends: June 13th, 2023 Description: Strange winds blow in from another world, and sightings of odd, bag-holding creatures spot the land… Find them, and see what treasure they may hold!

Welcome to Sanctuary – Begins June 15th, 2023 Ends: July 10th, 2023 Description: Strange winds blow in from another world, and heroes are filled with renewed vigor. Characters gain increased experience and reputation during this event.

Collecting this pet rewards the Little Lord of Lies achievement.

Three come from two weekly events – Fyrakk Assault and Researchers under Fire while the others drop from rare spawns.

  • Ambre – Fyrakk Assault
Nothing sparked joy in Ambre’s heart until it found the perfect match.
  • Blaze – looted mine from the Secured Shipment during the Fyrakk Assault but can drop from other mobs like the Disciple of Fyrakk: Kretchenwrath.
Like a campfire, but it wants skritches.
  • Devourer Lobstrok – drops from the reward at the end of the Researchers Under Fire weekly event. You can do the event over and over until you get the highest quality reward once you complete all 12 tasks.
Fortunately, it mainly devours pet treats.
  • Teardrop Moth – Underlight Queen (57, 69)
Contrary to their name, these moths are actually quite happy.
  • Skaarn – drop from Kob’rok (64, 55)
Skaarn likes to coil up inside your backpack.
  • Ridged Shalewing – drop from Kob’rok or Karokta
For a creature made of rocks, it hovers quite effortlessly.
  • lord stantleyLord Stantley – requires the Clacking Claw from Klakatak in order to interact with the Curious Top Hat
Lord Stantley will arrive fashionably early to any party that serves shrimp.

Top Hat locations:
38.86, 64.32
43.96, 77.48
51.58, 66.89
61.57, 69.53 (location in the video)
63.20, 55.72

  • Aquapo – drops from Aquifon (48, 75)
The fury of the sea in the package of a puddle.

salverun pet

Salverun – requires the Ouroboros Tablet ritual
Perhaps you’d like to see how snakelike it can be!

There are five versions of the Ouroboros Tablet all coming from the Sniffenseeking reward bag starting with the basic tablet in the first week so it will take 5 weeks to create this pet.

  1. Ouroboros Tablet
  2. combine the Ouroboros Tablet with the Designs of Flesh
  3. combine the Ouroboros Tablet with the Designs of Bone
  4. combine the Ouroboros Tablet with the Designs of Mind
  5. combine the Ouroboros Tablet with the Designs of Soul then kill the rare Kob’rok for the final piece – Kob’rok’s Luminescent Scale.

Brul – Chest of Massive Gains (use Rocks on the Rocks before you loot the chest)
Sure it’s just a rock, but how much can it lift?

Doesn’t seem to be a very high drop. Note you will lose the transformation from the Rocks buff if you go into combat. Rocks on the Rocks requires a minimum of 50 cooking skill.

Mote of Nasz'uro

Mote of Nasz’uro – this pet is a region-wide pet that unlocks once an Evoker has created their legendary weapon. Locate all 16 locations of the Wayward Motes of Nasz’uro scattered all over the Dragon Isles.

The light of the new legacy illuminates the path you forge.

Thankfully this is a very easy pet to collect if you know where to look. Thanks to all the people in the Secret Finders Discord for tracking down all the locations.

If you’re not seeing the pet, use this macro to check which one you’re missing.

Two battle pets are available to purchase from the Loamm Niffen at renown 15 from Harlowe Marl (56 55) located in Zaralek Cavern

  • Paulie – 200 Dragon Isles Supplies
This type of beetle feeds on dragon scales. Its bright colouration warns predators against attack.
  • Rango – 150 Dragon Isles Supplies
If bananas grew in caves, they would be Rango’s favourite food.
  • Thimblerig – 85 Barter Bricks (before renown 12) or 45 Barter Boulders (after renown 12) sold by Ponzo (58, 23) in Zaralek Cavern
Known to hide money in its shell. This is how I collected Thimblerig using just Barter Bricks.

    • 3 Boulder Bricks can be converted to 1 Barter Boulder later on
    • besides quest rewards, 3 Boulder Bricks can be looted from repeatable treasures like the Waterlogged Bunde, Ritual Offerings, and Smelly Treasure Chests (unlocked at renown 11) per day.
    • handing in the Bartering Boulders quest to Ponzo means you’ll receive Boulders instead of Bricks.
    • at renown 20, you can trade 100x Dragon Isles Supplies for one Barter Boulder.
  • Diamondshell – 50 Coveted Baubles sold by Saccratros (55, 55) in Zaralek Cavern. Unearthed Fragrant Coins can be traded in to Spinsoa
These snails are especially prized by many drogbar snail-racers for being fast and looking fantastic.
  • Miloh – 2,500 Polished Pet Charms sold by Explorer Bezzert (52, 66) in Zaralek Cavern or Patchu (13, 49) in Iskaara, Azure Span
    Miloh likes naps. Also snacks.

To collect these snails, head to the southwestern part of Zaralek Cavern. Complete two quests starting from Brogg the Beast in Glimmerogg. (see video)

  1. Pay to Play
  2. Favor on the Side

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

Next, pick up A Race To The Finish from Grogul and help one snail win the race. There are three versions of this quest, one for three of the snails completed over three weeks. Thankfully, this snail race is easier than the one in Highmountain.

Glimmerogg Racer

On a side note, you can unlock snail racing at Renown 7 with the Loamm Niffen. Earn the pink Big Slick in the City mount from the nearby snail trainer in Glimmerogg. Briggul will reward 100 reputation for each daily you complete.

Slick in the City

Briggul won’t let Slick go with just anybody. Can you prove your worth as a snail trainer?

To speed up the reputation grind, Briggul says he’s collected all the snails in the cavern but longs to see more. Show him any of the max-level snails below for an extra 100 rep each.
